"Garden Door"
Latex on painted plaster walls
approx. 8' X 10'
ca. 1987
Painted illusion of stonework and plants and door.
No door exists here.
This was one of my earliest commissions after arriving in Los Angeles.
Despite the fact that the painting technique used here is very bold and theatrical, it not thwart the effect of the ilusion as people were constantly walking up to the mural to touch it to confirm its flatness.
Due to photographic limitations, the view out the real window is over-exposed, but the effect in life was that the view out the real window was continued in the crack of the open door. It was quite effective.
